Senate & House Hearings on Proposed Standards
Senator Steve Kelley will hold a Senate hearing on the proposed
Academic Standards next Friday. Representative Barb Sykora will hold
hearings in the House the following Tuesday:
Edwatch encourages anyone who can be present to attend these hearings to
show your support for the legislature to pass the social studies
standards as they are, without micro- managing them.
EdWatch also supports the adoption of the "minority report" in
the Science standards which will bring the proposed science standards into
compliance with the federal Santorum amendment (that controversial issues
such as evolution be taught using the full spectrum of scientific
information about the controversy), and with state law (that the standards
be objective).
Your presence at these hearings is a powerful way to show that the public
is watching, involved and ready to respond. The proponents of radical
change in education operate well in secrecy and behind closed doors.
Show up!
This will be the most important legislative session ever! Please
participate!
Thank you!
