Marc Tucker Curriculum forced on St. Paul Schools

It didn't take long for St. Paul's new superintendent, Pat Harvey, to force the Tucker curriculum in St. Paul.  Pat Harvey has worked directly with Marc Tucker, President of the National Center On Education & the Economy (NCEE). Marc Tucker is infamous as a premier architect of the radical School-to-Work & Goals 2000 education system and the newest Congressional creation, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Tucker became known for his "Dear Hillary" Letter which reveals the goals and methods, the who, how, and why of School-to-Work and the planned economy of Workforce Investment. His infamous letter was placed into the Congressional Record (on Sept. 25, 1998, by Rep. Bob Schaffer), and is now widely displayed on the Internet.

The "Dear Hillary" letter lays out a plan "to remold the entire American [school] system" into "a seamless web that literally extends from cradle to grave and is the same system for everyone," coordinated by "a system of labor market boards at the local, state and federal levels" where curriculum and "job matching" will be handled by counselors "accessing the integrated computer-based program." The plan would change the mission of the schools away from teaching children academic basics and knowledge so they can make their own life choices, and toward training them narrowly in specific job skills to serve the global economy in jobs selected by workforce boards.

Government education bureaucrats have paid top taxpayer dollars to hire focus groups to identify what language is most persuasive in selling the radical new system to an unsuspecting public.

"Voluntary" and "local control" inspire positive responses, so these words are sprinkled everywhere in STW/WIA/Profile of Learning, tax-subsidized promotions. Yet the entire system is rapidly being imposed without the knowledge and consent of taxpayers and parents, exactly contrary to "voluntary" and "local control."

Superintendent Harvey brought Marc Tucker into St. Paul last summer to help her create a vision for St. Paul's future.  America's Choice is a school model curriculum that comes out of Tucker's organization.   At least two St. Paul schools will be implementing it this fall.
